The term was traditionally used to describe a fraudulent brokerage set up to offload unwanted securities belonging to the owners of the firm, typically penny stocks. However, the term has recently been used to describe a company or operation that employs high-pressure selling tactics (e.g calls to potential investors) which are often biased and untruthful.
